A message from Superintendent Brad Meeks - Steamboat Springs School District
On July 18, the Steamboat Springs School District Board of Education directed the school district administration to proceed with pursuing a 7-year $12.9 million bond to fund three critical infrastructure projects and an ongoing mill levy with a set mill levy amount that will generate $1 million in the first fiscal year. The ongoing mill levy will create a permanent source of funds for capital renewal needs of the district. Steamboat Springs School District voters will have a chance to consider these projects in November.

If funded, the bond will address necessary roof replacements in five facilities as well as the installation of a comprehensive heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in Steamboat Springs Middle School. Investments will also be made to restore Gardner Field to a state-of-the-art “classroom” as well as a central gathering point in our community. The ongoing mill levy funding would allow us to promptly address maintenance projects, particularly those that affect health, safety, and equitable environments for students and staff.

For more than a year, the Community Committee for Education (CC4E) has brought the community together, raised awareness of the issues and challenges faced by the school district, and prompted meaningful discussion. While many thoughtful solutions have been raised, the decision to pursue these specific projects and ongoing funding was driven by four core values: safety, student success, transparency, and longevity.

If funded, these investments compared to last year’s school tax based on $500,000 of market value, will increase residential property owners taxes an estimated additional $3.25 a month / $39 a year per $500,000 market value of residential property; and for $500,000 of market value of a commercial property an estimated additional $36 a month / $434 a year.

In the coming weeks and months, you will be able to access factual information about the bond and mill levy issues on our website.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
